VoiceWeaver ("we", "our", or "us") is a reading app that converts your own documents — EPUB, PDF, TXT, HTML, and Markdown files, plus web articles — into spoken audio, using either on-device text-to-speech or a cloud TTS service you configure yourself. This policy covers the VoiceWeaver iOS app and the VoiceWeaver web app.
The short version: VoiceWeaver has no user accounts, does not use analytics, tracking, or advertising, and does not operate any servers that store your documents or reading data. Everything below explains exactly what does happen to your data.
VoiceWeaver does not require you to create an account, sign in, or provide a name or email address to use the app. We do not use analytics SDKs, advertising SDKs, cookies, or any device/advertising identifiers (like IDFA). We do not know who you are, and we have no way to link app usage back to an individual person.
Books and documents you import are stored locally on your device. On iOS, your library, reading progress, bookmarks, and settings can optionally sync across your own devices via your personal iCloud account (Apple's CloudKit) — this data is stored in your iCloud account, governed by Apple's own privacy practices, and is never sent to any server VoiceWeaver operates. We have no access to it.
VoiceWeaver's default voices (the on-device Kokoro neural TTS engine, and Apple's built-in system/Personal Voice options) run entirely on your device. The text of your documents never leaves your device when using these voices.
VoiceWeaver optionally supports cloud text-to-speech providers — OpenAI, ElevenLabs, Google Cloud Text-to-Speech, or a self-hosted server you run yourself (Chatterbox or Kokoro-Web). These are entirely opt-in: if you choose to use one, you provide your own API key or account credentials for that service in Settings, and VoiceWeaver sends the text you want narrated directly to that provider's API using your credentials so it can generate audio. VoiceWeaver does not store, log, or have visibility into this exchange beyond what's needed to make the request and receive the resulting audio — no copy is kept on any server we control.
Because this text is sent directly to the provider you chose, that provider's own privacy policy governs how they handle it. We recommend reviewing the privacy policy of any cloud TTS service you enable.
VoiceWeaver's catalog browser lets you search and download public-domain books from Project Gutenberg (via the public Gutendex API) and Standard Ebooks. These are simple search/download requests — no personal data is attached to them beyond the network request itself (which, like any internet request, includes your IP address as visible to that server, the same as visiting any website).
Importing a web article works the same way: VoiceWeaver fetches the page you specify so it can extract the article text. On the web app, this fetch is routed through a stateless proxy we operate (to work around browser cross-origin restrictions) — the proxy fetches the page, returns it, and does not log, store, or retain the content or your request beyond serving it.
The iOS app uses Apple's on-device MetricKit framework to help diagnose crashes and performance issues. This data stays on your device and is not automatically transmitted anywhere. If you choose to export a diagnostic report (e.g. to attach to a support request), that's a manual, explicit action you take — we don't receive it unless you send it to us yourself.
We do not sell your data. We do not share data with advertisers or data brokers, because we don't collect any personal data to share in the first place. The only data that leaves your device is: (a) text sent directly to a cloud TTS provider you've explicitly configured with your own credentials, and (b) ordinary network requests to fetch a book or article you asked to import.
VoiceWeaver does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children, because it does not collect personal information at all in the course of normal operation.
If this policy changes, we'll update the effective date above. Since we don't collect contact information from users, we're not able to notify you directly — please check back here periodically if you'd like to stay informed.
